Partial project results presented on the 21st International Conference on Geoinformation and Cartography in Zadar

During 18-20 September 2025, the project leader doc. RNDr. Matej Vojtek, PhD. and the team member doc. RNDr. Jana Vojteková, PhD. actively attended the 21st International Conference on Geoinformation and Cartography, which was held at the University of Zadar in Zadar, Croatia. The conference was organized by the Croatian Cartographic Society, Department of Geography of the University of Zadar, and the Croatian Geographic Society – Zadar. It hosted 85 registered participants from Slovenia, Italy, Austria, Hungary, Germany, Slovakia, Romania, Greece, Georgia, Iran and Croatia.

The opening plenary lecture was given by internationally renowned cartographer Liqiu Meng from the Technical University of Munich, who spoke about the impact of artificial intelligence on cartography while the second plenary lecture was prepared by Georg Gartner from the TU Wien and current president of the International Cartographic Association (ICA).

Our researchers presented the study of four co-authors Matej Vojtek, Dávid Držík, Jozef Kapusta, and Jana Vojteková entitled “Machine Learning Prediction of Fluvial Flood Extent Using Benchmark Flood Maps and High-resolution Spatial Data“ in oral sessions held on 18 September 2025. The presented topic is a part of the project “Flood hazard mapping with the use of detailed geo-spatial data and hybrid approaches“ and it is linked mainly to the fourth work package of the project.
