On 23 June 2025, three project team members, namely doc. RNDr. Matej Vojtek, PhD., doc. RNDr. Jana Vojteková, PhD., and RNDr. Gabriela Repaská, PhD., attended the meeting and on-site field visit with the mayor of Dolné Lefantovce municipality.
At the beginning of the meeting, they discussed the flood protection measures implemented to mitigate flash and pluvial floods, which currently provide effective protection for the municipality of Dolné Lefantovce. In particular, a system of two dry polders and drainage canals efficiently diverts water from the upslope areas of the municipality during periods of intense rainfall. However, the drainage canals and polders need to be regularly inspected and cleaned to ensure they remain prepared to handle large volumes of rainwater within a short period of time.
After the meeting at the municipal office, the mayor and the researchers visited several locations in the municipality where flood protection measures have been constructed. The established flood protection system in Dolné Lefantovce municipality serves as an example of good practice for other municipalities aiming to enhance their resilience to flooding.
