Our researchers attended the JpGU-AGU Joint Meeting 2026 in Chiba

During 24-29 May 2026, the project leader doc. RNDr. Matej Vojtek, PhD. and the team member doc. RNDr. Jana Vojteková, PhD. actively attended the international scientific conference “JpGU-AGU Joint Meeting 2026“, which was held at the Makuhari Messe, Chiba, Japan. The conference was jointly organized by the Japan Geoscience Union (JpGU) and the American Geophysical Union (AGU). The conference event hosted 10,321 registered attendees in total, of which 8,946 were on-site participants. There were 2,960 oral presentations and 3,046 poster presentations.

Doc. RNDr. Matej Vojtek, PhD. and doc. RNDr. Jana Vojteková, PhD. from the Department of Geography, Geoinformatics and Regional Development presented their research in two poster sessions. One poster was entitled “Statistical forecasting of annual peak discharge trends: Evidence from five rivers in Slovakia“ and the other one was entitled “Prediction of pluvial flood inundation using eXtreme Gradient Boosting model trained on hydraulic flood maps”. The presented research was also co-authored by RNDr. Dávid Držík, PhD. from the Department of Informatics, prof. RNDr. Anna Tirpáková, CSc. from the Department of Mathematics, and RNDr. Gabriela Repaská, PhD. and RNDr. Katarína Vilinová, PhD. from Department of Geography, Geoinformatics and Regional Development. The presented posters are a part of the project entitled “Flood hazard mapping with the use of detailed geo-spatial data and hybrid approaches“ and they are linked mainly to the fifth and sixth work packages of this project. Throughout the conference, both our researchers had also the chance to attend many other oral and poster presentations and discuss similar issues to the ones being investigated in the project.
